Jim began shaking his head and ran his hand through his remaining hair. “Look, I was sort of on the fence of believing in vampires, but I’m afraid I’m having a hard time believing in any of this.”

“I think we all are.” Cory walked over next to Marie and grabbed her hand.

“I have no doubt you don’t believe me, but what I say is true,” said Baron. “Would it be possible for me to listen to the recording you have from your investigation? After all, that’s why we were meeting here this morning.”

Marie leaned down and began to unzip her laptop case. “Yes, of course, I think it may be helpful. I do have another question. Have you heard about what took place in the Tanners’ barn and the body of a woman they found on Tybee Island?”

“Yes, I read the news articles. I’m not quite sure I believe a vampire killed one of their pigs. They only feed on animals when it is necessary. It would have been because they were in desperate need of feeding.” The general took the headphones that Marie handed to him and began to inspect them. “As far as the woman found on the beach, that could be more in the lines of vampirism, but the stories of just leaving two puncture wounds in the neck aren’t what I have witnessed in the past. The destruction of a vampire feeding is quite hideous. I do hope whoever is around her this evening is careful.”

Isabella asked, “Why is that?”

“Because by now she’ll have begun to turn and whoever is in her presence is in danger.”

Cory quickly set his coffee cup down and grabbed his hat. “I’d better get over there.”

Marie grabbed Cory’s arm. “And just how do you propose to explain that to anyone? They’ll think you’re nuts. I certainly don’t want you around her if that happens.”

Gale couldn't keep the frustration from showing on her face. “Are you two seriously buying into all of this? “

“I have no choice. As I've said, I need to have facts, but with all that we’ve been through together, there has to be some belief in the paranormal. I’m just going to go back and see if they’ve come up with anything new on the case. They told me to stay in touch. I can check if anything else is going on at the ME’s office.” Cory kissed Marie’s cheek. “I promise to be careful, and I promise to stay in touch with you.”

Marie said, “You’d better. We’ll do the same on our end.”

The general was fiddling around with the headphones trying to adjust them on his head. “Can you please let me hear the recording?”

Gale snapped one of the ear pads in place startling the general. “You could be a little more patient.”

Marie glared at Gale. “Gale please don't be so rude. I’m sorry Baron. Just let me plug this in and find the right recording.”

After a few minutes, Baron removed the headphones and rubbed his eyes. “That’s Carmilla.
